Tourist attractions in Malaga

Malaga has become a reference point for Spanish and European culture, with more than 40 museums in the city (most of them located in the old town), numerous monuments of great historical value and wonderful walks. If you are planning your visit to Malaga, here are some recommendations:

Walking through the historic center

A great advantage when visiting Malaga is that all the tourist attractions are concentrated in the area known as the historic center, where practically all its streets are pedestrianized.

You can walk from Calle Larios to Calle Alcazabilla, where the Roman Theatre and the Alcazaba are located.

Waking up Gibralfaro Castle in Malaga

Its origins date back to Phoenician times. This castle, which forms a fortified complex together with the Alcazaba as both monuments are joined by the walls, descends the hillside.

Roman Theater of Malaga

Dating from the 1st century AD, this Roman theatre was used until the 3rd century. In the present day, its remains were discovered during building work carried out in 1951.

Alcazaba of Malaga

You should also visit the Alcazaba, a fortress from the Arab period built in the 11th century, where you will be surprised by the network of internal defensive fortifications.

Malaga Cathedral

The Cathedral of Malaga is another of the monuments you can visit in the historic centre of Malaga.

Although its official name is Catedral de la Encarnación, it is popularly known as ‘la manquita’.

It is a majestic building with a very peculiar exterior aesthetic, a consequence of the period of architectural transition in which it was built during the 16th century.
